The Cyber Kill Chain is a working theory that Lockheed-Martin designed to help people understand that everyone can help thwart Cybersecurity incidents like hacking. Given that they have designed a lot of the military aircraft that have fought in previous and current wars, we think they’re worth listening to!

The foundation concept of the Cyber Kill Chain is that any Cybersecurity Attack has a number of steps to complete the attack and we can stop that attack from being successful by shutting it down at one of those steps. A lot of people think that once an attack starts, it’s all game over – The Cyber Kill Chain turns that on its head and shows us how we can stop something from happening as it progresses.

The Cyber Kill Chain talks about seven steps – Reconnaissance, Weaponisation, Delivery, Exploitation, Installation, Command and Control, and Actions on Objectives. We’ll explain each of these steps in the lessons following.
